As Cyclone Yaas rips through north Odisha, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Chief, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra stated that the maximum damage would be felt in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, & Mayurbhanj. Mohapatra stated that the Cyclone's wind speed during the landfall is between 130 - 140 kilometres per hour with gusts reaching up to 150 kilometres per hour. He emphasized that this wind speed would continue for the next few hours after which it will gradually decrease as it moves through land. However, he also warned that the damaging wind between 100 - 120 kilometres per hour is also likely to cause havoc in the north interior districts of Odisha like Mayurbhanj. The IMD Chief advised everyone at the cyclone shelters to stay put and requested all to follow government guidelines to fight the natural calamity.
