The COVID-19 Pandemic has affected us like nothing else in our lifetimes and it has taught us that humanity is above everything else. Here is a picture that would inspire hope in these times of despair. Here a Muslim man is assisting in performing the last rites of his Hindu friend. His friend died of Covid-19 in Sundergarh district of Odisha on Saturday. Sanatan Patel of Bandhapali area succumbed to the deadly virus on Saturday and his body was taken to Ranibagicha for the funeral. Along with the relatives of the deceased, Ali, who was a good friend, also came to the funeral. He chanted ‘Ram Nam Satya Hai’ and helped perform the last rites of Sanatan. There have been plethora of disturbing images of the dead being abandoned and denied a dignified funeral. Even the near and dear ones are shunning the COVID19 victims. Rahmat Ali's act not only transcends the barriers of faith, but it has also surmounted the evils of fear & stigma in these dark times.
