In an unfortunate incident, an elderly woman and her grandson were killed after being crushed by a speeding truck on Wednesday (June 2). The incident occurred close to the NH-20 at Banki Maruni village under Keonjhar Sadar Police limits.
As per reports, the elderly woman identified as Sumitra Mahanta was casually walking along with her one-year-old grandson in the backyard of her house, when a speeding truck rammed into the house after the driver lost control of the vehicle. Both Sumitra and her grandson sustained grievous injuries in the mishap. A 108 ambulance was immediately called, and the duo was rushed to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
However, both of them were declared dead at the hospital. Receiving information, the Keonjhar Sadar Police reached the spot and launched an investigation. The police have seized the vehicle and detained the driver for interrogation. A case was also registered in this connection.
