The much-feared third wave of coronavirus pandemic can hit India as early as August 2021! Raising the alarm bells, a study highlighted that India may witness a surge in infections by the second fortnight of August. These observations were reported by national media quoting the report named ‘Covid-19: The race to finishing line’, published by SBI Research.
As per the report, peak number of cases in the third wave could be around 1.7 times the number of peak cases during the second wave. The report pointed out that vaccination is the only savior. Meanwhile, only 4.6 per cent of the population in India is fully vaccinated, while 20.8 per cent have received the first dose.
The report has further highlighted that the third wave will peak in September 2021. The second wave hit India in April and peaked in May. At its peak recorded on May 7, the country saw 4.14 lakh COVID-19 cases in a single day. Meanwhile, India on Monday reported 39,796 fresh Covid-19 cases along with 42,352 recoveries and 723 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Currently, with The total Covid-19 tally reached 3.05 crore with 4,02,728 deaths so far .
