Many weaver families reside in Cuttack’s Nuapatna and Maniabandha. When one enters the village, you enter their world of handlooms and threads. These threads & fabrics tie these villagers together in an age old vocation. These skilled villagers create rich tapestries of patta sarees, but their own picture is now bleak.
Covid pandemic has left some deep creases on their livelihood that may take a long time to iron out. The lockdowns and shutdowns have made it difficult for them to make their ends meet. Since the onset of the pandemic, the movement of people has reduced and business has suffered a lot.
The weavers from Sonepur are facing similar plight. Many weaver families in the area have been badly affected in the Covid19 lockdown. Even though, they have been toiling hard at weaving colourful threads on their handlooms, there are no buyers.
