Amid reports of vaccine shortage across the country, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan has claimed that India will be in a position to vaccinate the entire adult population by the end of 2021. The Union Minister said this during his interaction with the health ministers, principal secretaries and additional chief secretaries of West Bengal and eight northeastern states on Wednesday (May 19). Harsh Vardhan said that with procurement of 267 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses by the end of this year, India will be in a position to vaccinate at least all of its adult population. According to a statement issued by the health ministry, 51 crore doses will be procured by July this year and 216 crore more vaccine doses would be procured between August to December.
