In an extremely tragic news, former Odisha cricket team captain Prashant Mohapatra succumbed to Covid-19 infection on Wednesday (May 19). The news comes just days after his father, renowned sculptor, Rajya Sabha member & Padma Vibhushan, Raghunath Mohapatra also lost his life to COVID. Prashant breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar. Information on his demise was provided by AIIMS superintendent, Sachidananda Mohanty. Prashant was admitted to the hospital after his condition worsened following the Covid infection. Prashant represented Odisha in 45 first-class cricket matches and 17 list A matches. He had also featured as referee in several domestic matches. Following the news of his demise, several prominent cricketers expressed their grief. Taking to twitter, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh expressed their grief and condolences to the bereaved family.
