The COVID19 deaths declared every day do not reflect the concerned day’s fatalities, but are past numbers that have been audited. This information was shared by Odisha Family Welfare Director Bijay Panigrahi on Tuesday (July 6).
Panigrahi stated that the data on deaths due to Covid are delayed because they are reported after an audit is completed in each district. He elaborated that a death is not immediately declared, but after a committee conducts an audit to determine whether the death is Covid-related or not.
After the audit, the information is conveyed to the state government which then makes the number public. Panigrahi also stated that compared to other states, the fatality rate in Odisha is much lower and there is no reason to be alarmed.
