Amid the rising scare of the Omicron variant, State Health & Family Welfare Director, Bijay Panigrahi on Monday (Dec 13) informed that as many as 41 lakh people in Odisha are yet to take their first dose of the Covid vaccine. This accounts for almost 13 per cent of the total beneficiaries in the state.
As per the top health official, the state government is currently aiming to administer at least the first dose to all of its eligible beneficiaries by the end of the year. So far, 87 per cent beneficiaries in the state have received their first shot of the Covid vaccine.

As more persons are exposed to and infected by SARS-CoV-2, reports of patients who experience persistent symptoms or organ dysfunction after acute Covid and develop post-Covid conditions have increased.
In the same period, 17 Covid deaths were reported taking the nationwide toll to 5,24,507.
