Three days after emergence of first case of Omicron variant in India, New Delhi reported country’s 5th case of the variant on Sunday.
A 37-year-old man who arrived in Delhi from Tanzania tested positive for the new Covid variant, Omicron. The patient, who is fully vaccinated, was admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital in the national capital, where a separate ward has been set up for Omicron patients.
According to the official sources, the patient's travel history is being collated and contacts are being traced.
The first two cases of Omicron in India were reported from Karnataka earlier this week. The next two cases emerged from Gujarat and Maharashtra, respectively.
The rising cases of daily Covid-19 infections across the country is said to be majorly driven by the JN.1 sub variant. As of now, the country has reportedly detected about 145 cases of JN.1 variant from eight states.
