Tragic scenes unfolded in Rayagada district on Sunday (October 3) when a youth accidentally slipped into a river while taking selfie in his mobile phone. The youth identified as Bilal Ansari has been missing since.
Ansari hails from Uttar Pradesh but was living in Rayagada to make his ends meet by working as a makeshift food vendor. As per reports, Ansari along with his friends had gone to the Hanging Bridge near Nagabali River.
Ansari went into the river to take selfie, completely unaware of the consequences. In the next moment, he slipped into deep water and was swept away by the heavy water current. Ansari’s friends lodged a missing complaint at Rayagada Police station in this regard.
Based on the complaint, the Fire Services personnel launched a search operation Monday (October 4) morning. However till filing of this report, Ansari was yet to be traced.
The mishap was reported from Tulasipalli area under Bhanjanagar Police limits of Ganjam district. While two persons died on the spot, the injured were rescued by locals and hospitalised.
When the fire department got the information, six fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the fire.
Eight people were travelling in the ill-fated auto-rickshaw towards Keonjhar when the pick-up van hit the vehicle. The mishap occurred near a sharp turn on the road.
As per reports, the passengers were returning from Simdega in Ranchi after attending a ring ceremony when the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicles and hit a tree.
