Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC have been clamped in 22 villages under Kotia panchayat. The Koraput district administration on Wednesday (April 7) imposed Section 144 in the villages owing to the rising cases of Covid-19.

Sources said that the restrictions were imposed from 5PM of April 7th and will remain in force till 6PM of April 9th. For this, as many as 22 nodal officers with magistrate power will be on duty along with deployed police forces.

Awareness was created in these villages through loudspeakers and residents have been asked not to venture out for unessential activities. The administration has completely banned the travel of vehicles in these 22 villages.

It is pertinent to mention that the Andhra Pradesh High Court had made arrangements for conducting elections to the posts of ‘Panchayat Samiti’ and ‘Zilla Parishad’ members on April 8th in the Kotia area, which falls under Odisha’s jurisdiction.
