After Odisha Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro's comments regarding imposition of day curfew in the state spread like wildfire, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) on Sunday came up with a clarification. SRC has made it clear that there is no plan for imposing day curfew in Odisha and that Covid-19 situation in the State is very much under control.
In a tweet, SRC mentioned that the State government is closely monitoring the situation and at this point, there is no plan for imposing day curfew in the State.
The Special Relief Commissioner has appealed to the people to follow Covid protocols, use of masks, maintain physical distancing and hand hygiene.
Earlier in the day while talking to reporters, Assembly Speaker SN Patro said that day time curfew is likely to be imposed in the State in the next 4-5 days and the matter is urgently being reviewed by Odisha Chief Minister and Health Department. Patro said that a decision will soon be taken in this regard because of the worsening Covid situation in the state.
The State government has recently announced night curfew in 10 districts that witnessed a sharp rise in coronavirus cases. Night curfew has been imposed from 5th April in 10 districts namely Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
