An Act Of Bravery

Kanchan Bai Meghwal - a devoted Anganwadi cook and president of the ‘Jai Mata Di’ self-help group - reacted without hesitation. With nearly 20 young children encircled by the furious bees, she grabbed mats and tarpaulins lying nearby, carefully wrapped each child, and ushered them inside the safety of the centre. In that breathless moment, she became their shield - positioning her own body between the swarm and the children.

The Cost of Courage

Her selfless act worked. Every child reached safety unharmed. But as the bees turned their anger on her, hundreds of stings rained down on her body. Villagers and emergency responders rushed her to a health facility, but she was declared dead on arrival. The price of protection was her life.

Beyond Heroism - A Legacy of Love

Kanchan Bai wasn’t just a cook; she was the sole breadwinner for her family, supporting a paralysed husband, a son, and two daughters with her modest income. Her love extended beyond her own - she safeguarded the future of children who depended on her care and kindness.

In villages and cities alike, her story has sparked admiration, tears, and calls for honouring her sacrifice - a reminder that true heroism often wears humble clothes.
