Bengaluru’s reputation as India’s tech capital found a striking new expression after a local software professional went viral for transforming his helmet into an artificial intelligence–powered “traffic police device.” The invention came from Pankaj Tanwar, a Bengaluru-based techie who said his growing frustration with poor traffic discipline pushed him to experiment with a technological solution.
Sharing his project on X, Tanwar wrote, “I was tired of stupid people on the road, so I hacked my helmet into a traffic police device.” He explained that the AI system operates in near real time, identifying traffic violations as they happen. The device captures images of offenders, records the location and number plate, and sends the information directly to the police. In one example, he shared, a scooter rider without a helmet was immediately flagged and reported.
“Bengaluru people, so now ride safe or regret it,” Tanwar added, underscoring the intent behind the experiment.

Internet Applauds the Idea
The post quickly gained traction, crossing 1.5 lakh views and drawing widespread reactions. Social media users praised the concept as a reflection of Bengaluru’s unique blend of technology and civic concern. “Peak Bengaluru innovation. This is some cool engineering,” one user commented, while another said, “Love it, love it. Vehicles should come with this tech.”
Ideas and Humour Follow
Some users suggested expanding the concept to car dashcams, even proposing incentives for citizens who report violations. Others reacted with humour, with one commenter remarking that Tanwar had “turned road rage into a production system.”
Just a Passion Project
Responding to the attention, Tanwar said he was overwhelmed and clarified that the AI helmet was part of his hobby of building “weird, fun projects.” As the buzz continues, the experiment has sparked fresh conversations about technology-driven solutions for traffic discipline.
