The incident occurred in the village of Kathadia, located in Bangladesh's Tongibari Upazila. Kamal Hossain, a 39-year-old land surveyor and father of two daughters, had been married for a decade. In August 2025, his wife Sathi Akhter left him, taking with her gold jewelry and a significant amount of money, and fled with her lover.

Undeterred by the community’s criticism, Kamal focused on moving forward. He found companionship and support in 24-year-old Nupur Akhter, a longtime friend and neighbor. The couple decided to marry, and in a grand gesture, Kamal arranged for a helicopter to transport Nupur to their village after the wedding.

The helicopter’s arrival in the village surprised and delighted the local community, marking an unprecedented spectacle in the area. Kamal stated that he had always dreamed of bringing his wife home in a helicopter, and despite past hardships, he wanted to fulfill this wish with Nupur.
