Maharashtra couple skips grand wedding, donates Rs 10L for village school

At a time when weddings are increasingly defined by grandeur, LED-lit stages, choreographed performances, designer outfits, and endless celebrations, two lovely lovebirds, Shekhar Shejul and Rituja Shinde from Maharashtra, chose a path far removed from spectacle.

Their wedding did not trend for extravagance. Instead, it left behind something far more enduring. Instead of opting for a lavish wedding, the couple tied the knot in a simple traditional ceremony at the Datta Temple, attended by just 25 close family members.

No Fireworks, No DJ

There was no DJ, no fireworks, no pre-wedding events competing for attention. What filled the space instead was quiet, sincere, and deeply rooted in values. But the most meaningful part of their story unfolded after the wedding rituals ended.

Rather than spending lavishly on a one-day celebration, both families made a rare and conscious decision. They saved Rs 10 lakh, money that would typically disappear into decor, catering, and luxury, and donated it to the Zilla Parishad primary school in Shekhar’s native village.

Modern Computer Laboratory

The contribution is now being used to establish a modern computer laboratory, giving village children access to digital education and skills that can shape their future. For students who had never touched a computer, this gift represents opportunity, exposure to a wider world, and the tools to participate in it.

For the village, it marks progress rooted in empathy rather than charity. Shekhar and Rituja’s wedding reminds us that love is not only expressed in grand gestures or fleeting celebrations. Sometimes, love is quieter. Sometimes, it invests in classrooms instead of chandeliers, and futures instead of photographs.
