A Daughter’s Concern Sparks a Life-Changing Decision

The story revolves around Li Bingdi, a second-year student at Jilin Normal University in Siping, Jilin province. For months, Li had been complaining that her university canteen food was unhygienic and lacked the familiar “taste of home.” Her father, who worked at a barbecue restaurant in Tianjin, was moved by her concern.

Determined to help, he made a life-altering decision — he resigned from his job and travelled across the country.

Before moving to Siping, he spent time in southern China learning to cook popular dishes like fried rice and noodles. He then rented a small food stall just outside the gates of his daughter’s university, hoping to give her and other students a taste of home-cooked comfort.

From Struggles to Success

Li’s father opened his modest food stall in mid-October. On the first day, he sold just seven meals and earned less than 70 yuan — less than what his daughter made tutoring that day. Seeing his struggle, Li shared his story on her university’s social media page, highlighting his hard work, clean cooking, and determination to improve.

The heartfelt post quickly went viral, and the very next day, long queues formed at his stall. Students, teachers, and local residents came to show support — some even overordered to encourage him. Within days, the small stall transformed into a local favourite.

A Promise Fulfilled and a Bond Deepened

Li and her father share an especially close bond. After losing her mother to leukaemia a few years ago, they have relied on each other deeply. When Li was uncertain about which university to attend, her father had promised that he would follow her anywhere — a promise he has now fulfilled completely.

As his stall thrives, Li spends most of her free time helping him. She recalls how he once said he felt cold while running the stall in harsh weather, but now, with steady customers, “his heart feels warm.”

“My father doesn’t aim for big profits,” Li shared. “He just wants to live simply, stay close to me, and make a living. Many say a father’s love is as steady as a mountain — but for me, it’s as warm as the sun.”
