Odisha government on Friday asked the authorities of Utkal University to abstain from seeking external financial support without spending its available fund of Rs 500 crore first.
The agitating students have demanded nursing management by varsity authorities and not by any private firm.
The State government has spent a whopping Rs 2.42 crore on training meritorious Civil Service aspirants for three years at eight universities in the State but none of them could crack the competitive examination.
The engagement will be for a period of two years or till the completion of the project. The position is purely temporary.
Ragging allegations surfaced at Utkal University in Vani Vihar on Friday (Nov 26) after some first year IMBA students alleged that they were harassed by some senior students of the university.
As per reports, a first year IMBA student was allegedly stripped and ragged inside the hostel by some senior students with help of non-students.
Senior Congress leader and MLA Suresh Routray urged the Central government to take immediate measures to recognize Utkal University as a central university and also made a host of demands before the newly inducted three union ministers from Odisha.
As per the Odisha Higher Education Department, functioning of all public Universities and degree colleges will commence from June 1. The institutions will reopen following completion of summer vacation, informed the State Higher Education Department on Friday.
