Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished the people of Odisha on New Year.
The day assumes much significance as the new Odia calendar or Panjika is released on the auspicious day. The day also marks the onset of the summer season and is known as Pana Sankranti and people distribute 'pana', a traditional cool drink.
The confusion over the dates of the celebration of Pana Sankranti, the Odia New Year, came to an end with the Mukti Mandap of Srimandir putting its seal on April 14.
Extending greetings, PM Modi wished that the Odia New Year may bring abundance of happiness and good health.
Hanuman Jayanti, the birth of Hindu God Hanuman is also being celebrated across the State. Devotees have thronged temples to have darshan of Hanuman.
