The department in a written submission further informed that as on February 9 last year, in 61 identified Japanese Encephalitis/Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (JE/AES) affected districts in five states, provision of tap water supply has increased from 8.02 lakh (2.64 per cent) to 123.07 lakh (40.43 per cent).
When Odisha has over 51,300 villages (as per 2011 census), only 12 percent or 6.1 k villages have 100 percent functional household tap connection (FHTC)
The government said that to achieve this mammoth task, Rs 3.60 lakh crore has been allocated for five years.
The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched in 2019, is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
PM Modi also launched the Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh, where any individual, institution, corporate or philanthropist, be it in India or abroad, can contribute to help provide tap water connection in every rural household, school, anganwadi centre, ashramshala and other public institutions.
Union Minister of State, Jal Shakti and Tribal Affairs, Bishweswar Tudu on Monday lashed out at Odisha government for failing to utilize the central funds in a proper manner for the welfare of people in Odisha. Tudu also alleged that the State government is however busy in rebranding the central schemes as its own.
Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has approved the four-fold increase in allocation to Odisha and assured full assistance to the state for making provision of tap water supply in every rural home by March, 2024.
Of the central funds allocated under the Jal Jeevan Mission, 93 percent is to be utilized on developing water supply infrastructure, 5 per cent on support activities and 2 percent on water quality monitoring and surveillance.
