The forest officials were allegedly beaten and sustained burn injuries on their bodies after angry villagers snatched the fire torch meant to ward off elephants from their hands and used them on the bodies of forest officials.
"We will definitely take action as the location where the incident took place is beyond the forest limits and there is a road on the other side of the railway track. The location is not a passage for elephants and the road is at a higher altitude," said Shashi Paul, PCCF.
Odisha reported 51,968 forest fires between November 2020 and June 2021, which was the highest in the country during the period.
