The nation will celebrate freedom fighter Birsa Munda's birth anniversary in the line of Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday

Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Union Minister Arjun Munda and former chief minister Babulal Marandi were among those present on the occasion, held on the Jharkhand Statehood Day.

India's freedom struggle was strengthened by several movements by tribal communities such as Santhals, Tamars, Kols, Bhils, Khasis and Mizos to name a few. Tribal movements in different regions of the country against the British colonial rule got linked with the national freedom struggle and inspired Indians all over the country.

Ahead of the birth anniversary of ‘Bhagwan’ Birsa Munda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (Oct 24) recalled the contribution of the brave warrior towards the country.

The PM said Birsa Munda's life remains an inspirational force for the people. Even today folk songs and stories, full of his courage and valour are very popular in the central region of India.
