Varun Chakravarthy breaks silence on viral post after India's Asia Cup triumph
Team India spinner Varun Chakravarthy recently opened up about his viral “mug” post following India’s Asia Cup 2025 triumph. Speaking about the light-hearted moment, he revealed that he had originally planned to celebrate the victory with the trophy, but when it wasn’t available, he decided to pose with a mug instead.
India clinched the Asia Cup 2025 title after defeating Pakistan three times in the tournament. However, the post-final celebrations took a controversial turn when PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi left with the trophy after the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian side refused to accept it from his hands. Following the incident, Indian players began trolling the Pakistan team and Naqvi, celebrating their win with an imaginary trophy on the field.
Varun Chakravarthy later joined in on the fun by posting a picture of himself lying on his bed, posing with a coffee mug. He explained that he had planned to take a celebratory photo with the cup beside him, but in its absence, he improvised with what was available.
“I knew we were going to win. After our second match, I was confident that if we met them in the final, we’d beat them again. I had everything planned — I’d sleep with the trophy next to me and take a photo. But after the match, there was no trophy, just a coffee cup, so I went ahead with that,” he said.
In his appearance on Breakfast with Champions, Chakravarthy also shared his unwavering confidence in India’s dominance throughout the tournament.
“I knew we would win all our games. We are the number one team in the world. The cup can be taken away, but we are still the champions,” he added.
While Chakravarthy didn’t claim many wickets during the Asia Cup, his economical spells were instrumental in India’s success. His performances also propelled him to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings.

Since his return to the T20I side, Chakravarthy has become a key figure in India’s bowling lineup and remains the team’s highest wicket-taker in the format. Known for his calm and composed demeanor, he described himself as an introvert who finds solace in writing.
“I’ve always been an introvert. I’m not like Arshdeep or Nayar, who are outgoing and full of jokes. My humor is a bit dark. After practice, I go back to my room and write. Writing helps me express myself and visualize things. Sometimes, I get so lost in it that I forget I’m a cricketer and have a match the next day,” he shared.
