Bhubaneswar: The Under-18 Girls' Asia Rugby Sevens Championship concluded at the Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday with the Indian girls finishing on a disappointing note securing the fourth place in the tournament.

While China became the champions after defeating Hong Kong by 28-5 points, third place was secured by Thailand when it beat the home team India by 25-5 points.

“I’m really proud of the girls who have been working so hard over the past three days. They have been training for two months before this tournament. It really feels great after winning the championship trophy,” said coach of China.

“We had a really good tournament and I’m proud of the way we played. The audience was really good and kept us motivated throughout,” Captain of Hong Kong team said after the match.

Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal was the chief guest at the closing ceremony, who awarded the trophies to the champion and runners-up teams.

As per reports, a total of 12 countries participated in the tournament which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on October 26.
