India’s teenage batting marvel Vaibhav Suryavanshi once again stamped his authority on the global stage with a breathtaking knock in the U-19 World Cup 2026 clash against Bangladesh on Saturday. Just 14 years old, Suryavanshi produced a fluent 72 from 67 balls, laced with six boundaries and three towering sixes, setting the tone for India with his fearless approach at the top.
True to his aggressive reputation, the left-hander raced to his half-century in only 30 deliveries. In the process, he created history by becoming the youngest player ever to score a 50-plus innings in a Men’s U-19 World Cup match.
At 14 years and 296 days, Suryavanshi eclipsed the long-standing record held by Afghanistan’s Shahidullah Kamal, who had achieved the feat at 15 years and 19 days. Pakistan star Babar Azam, who scored a fifty in the 2010 edition against the West Indies, now slips to third place on the elite list.
Suryavanshi’s remarkable consistency has also seen him surge ahead in another significant milestone. With 1,047 runs from just 20 Youth ODIs, he has overtaken Virat Kohli, who had amassed 978 runs in 28 matches at the same level.
Among Indian batters, only former skipper Vijay Zol stands above him, having scored 1,404 runs in 36 games, while Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto remains the all-time leading run-getter in Youth ODIs with 1,820 runs.
