India and South Africa are set for another blockbuster encounter as they lock horns in the Super 8 stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup on February 22 in Ahmedabad. The clash revives memories of the 2024 final, with both teams arriving unbeaten and brimming with confidence.

South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad believes the spotlight will shine brighter on the defending champions. Speaking ahead of the contest at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Conrad suggested that India’s status as title holders brings added scrutiny and expectation.

According to Conrad, high expectations can weigh heavily on any team, particularly one like India that consistently operates under intense public and media focus. He expressed hope that his side could take advantage of that pressure and force India into uncomfortable situations during the match.

However, the Proteas coach was quick to clarify that he does not view individual struggles as signs of weakness. Referring to India opener Abhishek Sharma who endured three ducks in the group stage- Conrad stressed that short-term dips in form do not automatically put players under threat. He maintained that pressure exists on both sides and that South Africa are equally prepared to handle it.

India have firmly stood by Abhishek, reaffirming his place at the top of the order despite recent setbacks. Conrad’s remarks reflected respect for India’s depth rather than any attempt to undermine it.

While India dominated South Africa 3-1 in their T20I series during the Proteas’ tour of India in December 2025, Conrad indicated that bilateral results have little bearing on World Cup contests, where stakes and dynamics differ significantly.
