In a recent interaction, the former India captain revealed his plan to sing alongside Jemimah, who would accompany him on the guitar. “If India win the World Cup, she and I—if she’s fine with it—will sing a song together. She’ll bring her guitar, and I’ll join in,” Gavaskar said with a smile. “We actually did something similar once during the BCCI Awards a couple of years ago. There was a live band, and we just decided to join them. Jemimah played the guitar, and I sang with whatever voice I have. If India win this time, I’d love to do it again—if she’s willing to perform with an old man, I’m all in!”

That earlier moment he mentioned took place at the BCCI Naman Awards 2024, when Gavaskar and Jemimah surprised everyone with an impromptu duet. Jemimah strummed her guitar while Gavaskar sang along, and the spontaneous performance won the audience’s hearts.

Now, fans may get to witness a sequel to that charming collaboration. Gavaskar’s “Jam with Jemimah” pledge has become one of the most delightful subplots of India’s World Cup journey.

Jemimah certainly earned the spotlight. In the semi-final against Australia, the 24-year-old produced a match-winning masterpiece—an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls—that led India to a record chase of 339. Her 167-run stand with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur turned the game on its head, ending Australia’s 15-match winning streak and propelling India into Sunday’s final in Navi Mumbai.
