Cuttack: The 46th Sub-Junior (U-13) National Basketball Championship kicked off at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday.

As many as 25 boys teams and 24 girls teams are taking part in the seven-day-long tournament which will conclude on September 9.

The Championship played on a league-cum-knock out format has been hosted by the Odisha Basketball Association under the aegis of Basketball Federation of India (BFI).

K. Govindaraj, President of BFI, attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guest along with other BFI officials. Ashirbad Behera, Secretary of Odisha Athletic Association, also graced the occasion.

"Apart from the officials, technicians and volunteers, as many as 750 players from 49 teams (including both boys and girls) are taking part in the championship," informed Gyana Ranjan Parida, Secretary of Odisha Basketball Association.

"I hope the Championship will spur the players of Odisha to know their standards and strengths and learn a lot from their competitors. I hope they will enter the knock out stage," he added.
