Badajoz (Spain): The Adalid peace, freedom and solidarity award, presented by the town of La Albuera, was bestowed this year on Spain football team coach Vicente del Bosque for his work in defending people with disabilities.

The municipality of La Albuera, in the province of Badajoz in the Extremadura region, declared on Thursday that 65-year-old del Bosque was to be honoured with the award, reports Efe.

The announcement came during an event marking the 205th anniversary of the Battle of Albuera, which took place during the Spanish war of independence.

Del Bosque guided Spain to their maiden World Cup glory in 2010 and also helped them successfully defend the European championship in 2012. He is also a Real Madrid legend both as a footballer as well as a coach.
