Shreyas Iyer
India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has provided a reassuring update on his recovery following a serious rib and spleen injury sustained during the third ODI against Australia. The 30-year-old batter, who was admitted to the ICU due to internal bleeding from a spleen laceration, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans.
“I’m currently recovering and feeling better with each passing day. I’m truly thankful for all the kind wishes and encouragement — it means the world to me. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts,” Iyer shared on X (formerly Twitter).
The injury occurred when Iyer took a stunning catch to dismiss Alex Carey, after which he walked off the field but fainted in the dressing room. He was immediately taken to the hospital and placed in intensive care to prevent infection from the spleen injury.

The BCCI later confirmed that Iyer’s condition was stable. India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav also shared an encouraging update, saying he had managed to exchange messages with Iyer. “Initially, I couldn’t reach him as he didn’t have his phone. But the team physio told me he was improving. Later, I spoke to him, and we exchanged messages — a good sign that he’s getting better,” Suryakumar said.
Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, and it remains uncertain whether he will be fit in time for the ODI series against New Zealand in January 2026.
