In an era dominated by aggressive batting and ever-rising strike rates, Jasprit Bumrah’s consistency in T20 cricket remains rare and invaluable. Whether with the new ball or at the death, his ability to outthink batters and execute yorkers with precision has made him a cornerstone of India’s T20 plans.

Speaking on JioStar’s Cricket Live, Uthappa highlighted the physical demands of Bumrah’s unique bowling style. With his high pace and unconventional action, Bumrah puts significant stress on his body, making careful scheduling essential.

“He is an absolute match-winner, and managing his workload is crucial. Fast bowling is the toughest skill in the sport, and Bumrah does it at high pace with a demanding action,” Uthappa said, stressing the need to balance rest with match practice as India build towards the World Cup.

Rotated but Still Impactful

The Indian pacer was rested during the ODI series against South Africa after featuring in the two-match Test series. He returned for the T20Is, having earlier played the T20I series against Australia while sitting out the ODIs, a clear sign of India’s cautious approach.

Bumrah made an immediate impact in the first T20I, picking up two wickets and playing a key role in India’s dominant 101-run win. However, he struggled in the second match, missed the third, and saw the fourth abandoned due to heavy fog in Lucknow.

Series on the Line

India currently leads the five-match T20I series 2-1, with South Africa needing a win in Ahmedabad to level it. Uthappa praised the visitors’ competitiveness, calling the contest entertaining despite their inconsistency.

As India eye consistency and South Africa chase pride, Bumrah’s fitness remains central to the narrative. Managed wisely, the spearhead could be the difference between a strong series finish and World Cup glory.
