Ranji Trophy: Odisha trounce Tripura by 5 wickets
Bhubaneswar: After registering an emphatic win against Assam, Odisha today grabbed few more vital points after thrashing Tripura by 5 wickets in an Elite Group-C Ranji Trophy match played at DRIEMS ground in Cuttack.
A splendid batting performance by Subhransu Senapati and his partnership with Abhisek Rout helped Odisha to move up to the fourth position in the Elite Group C plate with 13 points. Senapati was the man of the match for his brisk knock of 41 in the first and a vital 84 in the second innings.
Put to bat, Tripura were bundled out for a quick 122 runs thanks to magnificent spell from Suryakant Pradhan who picked 7 wickets. Odisha too lost wickets in quick succession but managed to put up 212 runs on board in their first innings. Biplab Samantaray was the pick of the batsmen and contributed 89 runs for the team.
Both Basant Mohanty and Rajesh Mohanty picked 4 wickets each to contain the north east side before good partnerships towards the lower middle order helped the visitors score 304 in the second innings.
However, fighting innings from both Subhransu Senapati (84) and Abhisek Raut (89) helped the hosts secure the much-needed win with 217 runs in the second innings.
With two back to back wins in the first 4 matches of the season, Odisha now moved up to the fourth position in the Elite Group C plate with 13 points. Odisha had drawn its first match of the season against Haryana followed by a 10-wicket loss to Uttar Pradesh before winning a crucial match against Assam in Guwahati last week.
It will play its next match against formidable Jharkhand at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on December 6.
