Bhubaneswar: Mumbai thrashed the home team by a huge margin of 120 runs in the Group C Ranji match played at KIIT Cricket Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Mumbai gathered six points for its emphatic win.

Mumbai was asked to bat first and they lost their first wicket in the form of Akhil Herwadkar quite early in the 1st innings when Basant Mohanty took his 300th wicket in first-class cricket. The other opener young Prithvi Shaw went on to score a century to rescue Mumbai from early damage. Shaw scored 105 off 153 while he got good support from international cricketer Ajinkya Rahane (49). For the hosts, Basant Mohanty picked up four wickets while Biplab Samantaray and Suryakanta Pradhan scalped two each as Mumbai was bowled out for 289 in their first innings.

In reply, Odisha started off on a terrible note by losing first four wickets for just two runs on the board. Experienced Biplab Samantaray and newcomer Shantanu Mishra tried to stabilize the innings for Odisha by adding 93 runs for the fifth wicket. Shantanu got out for 36 while Biplab remained unbeaten on 72. Deepak Behera also played a decent knock of 28 runs in the lower order and helped Odisha to avoid follow-on. Odisha managed only 145 runs in the first innings.

With a big first innings lead, Mumbai lost Akhil Herwadkar and Ajinkya Rahane early in their 2nd innings. Prithvi Shaw carried on well and scored 46 runs but the top scorer for the visitors was Siddhesh Lad with a score of 117. Suryakanta Pradhan pocketed three wickets for Odisha whereas Basanta Mohanty and Biplab Samantaray got two each as Mumbai declared its second innings at 268/9 giving a target of 413 runs for the home side.

Odisha in reply managed only 292 in 85.1 overs with skipper Govinda Poddar scoring 87 off 123 balls and Shantanu Mishra again contributing 49 with the bat. Suryakanta Pradhan (32), Biplab Samantaray (31) and Saurabh Rawat (29) also got starts in the second innings but were unable to capitalise and save the third game for Odisha in this Ranji season.

Odisha will be playing its next game against another strong side Tamil Nadu at DRIEMS Ground at Tangi in Cuttack from November 9.
