Senior batter Ajinkya Rahane will not feature in Mumbai’s remaining two Ranji Trophy league matches of the ongoing season, according to reports. Mumbai are scheduled to face Hyderabad from January 22 to 25, followed by their final league-stage fixture against Delhi at the MCA-BKC ground from January 29 to February 1.
However, Rahane has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that he will be unavailable for the remainder of the red-ball campaign due to personal reasons.
As per a report in The Indian Express, Rahane has communicated his decision to the MCA ahead of the team selection for the second phase of the league stage.

Ahead of the 2025–26 domestic season, Rahane had stepped down from Mumbai’s captaincy, stating that it was the right time for a new leader to take charge. The MCA subsequently appointed India all-rounder Shardul Thakur as captain of the 42-time Ranji Trophy champions.
Rahane's Leadership
Under Rahane’s leadership, Mumbai lifted the Ranji Trophy in the 2023–24 season, ending a seven-year title drought. They also reached the semi-finals last season, where they lost to Vidarbha by 90 runs. Mumbai further enjoyed success under his captaincy by winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, with Rahane finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, and clinching the Irani Trophy in the 2024–25 season.
Rahane is Mumbai’s second-highest run-getter in first-class cricket, having scored 6,141 runs in 80 matches at an average of 57.18 between 2007 and 2025, behind only Wasim Jaffer, who amassed 8,178 runs.
Across his domestic career, Rahane has featured in 205 first-class, 192 List A and 284 T20 matches, scoring 14,209 runs in first-class cricket, 6,853 in List A and 7,242 in T20s.
