PCB files complaint against Suryakumar Yadav

India captain Suryakumar Yadav faces scrutiny after his remarks following India’s win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup group stage on September 14. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has acknowledged a complaint lodged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and is weighing further action, with the possibility of a formal hearing.

Match referee Richie Richardson reportedly informed the Indian team management via email that two official reports from the PCB had been received. These concern Suryakumar’s comments at the post-match presentation and subsequent press conference, which Richardson noted could have “potentially harmed the image of the sport.” Charges may be pursued as a result.

Suryakumar has the option to either accept the charge or contest it in a formal hearing. Such a hearing would involve the ICC match referee, representatives from both the BCCI and PCB, and Suryakumar himself, allowing all parties to present their case.

At the presentation ceremony, Suryakumar dedicated the victory to victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and expressed solidarity with India’s armed forces, stating:“Perfect occasion, taking the time out, we stand by the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity... Want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery.”

Later, in the press conference, he revealed that the team had followed BCCI and government directions to avoid post-match handshakes with Pakistani players — a point that reportedly intensified the PCB’s complaint.

The ICC is now reviewing all submissions from the PCB before deciding whether charges will proceed. If confirmed and denied by Suryakumar, the matter will move to a formal hearing under the ICC Code of Conduct. The case adds fresh tension to an already charged Asia Cup 2025, as both India and Pakistan push for a place in the tournament final.
