The exclusion of Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan from the India A squad for the upcoming two-match red-ball series against South Africa A has reignited debate over selection clarity in Indian cricket. Despite strong performances and visible transformation, Sarfaraz’s name was missing from the 15-member list announced by the BCCI, leaving fans and experts fuming.

A Journey of Grit and Redemption

Sarfaraz made an impressive Test debut against England last year, scoring twin fifties and later notching up a century against New Zealand. Yet, a minor slump and injuries derailed his momentum. Determined to fight back, he shed 17 kilograms, scored back-to-back tons in the Buchi Babu tournament, and cleared his fitness tests but still found himself overlooked.

Ashwin’s Honest Take on Selection Chaos

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin highlighted a lack of clear communication from selectors. “If you’ve seen enough of Sarfaraz, say it clearly. But then why pick Abhimanyu Easwaran, who’s played enough for India A?” he asked. He admitted feeling “sad and clueless” over the decision, suggesting the snub could effectively close the Test doors on the 26-year-old.

A Future in Limbo

Ashwin’s words struck a chord with fans who see Sarfaraz’s story as one of persistence met with politics. As questions loom over fairness and opportunity, one truth remains: talent alone isn’t always enough. For Sarfaraz Khan, the fight now is not just for runs, but for recognition.
