Bhubaneswar: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Friday selected Kalinga Stadium in the Capital City along with two other stadiums in the country to host the prestigious AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 TM .

The tournament, which will provide the ultimate backdrop for some of the finest players in Asian and world women’s football, will be played from January 20 to February 6.

Among other venues, the continent’s premier women’s national team competition will also be played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and Ahmedabad’s TransStadia.

“Women’s football in Asia is world-class. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) have selected exceptional venues that will deliver a true spectacle befitting the stature of the tournament," said AFC General Secretary Dato Windsor John.

“AFC is grateful to AIFF, the LOC and the three host cities for their dedication and we are confident that the tournament will serve as a catalyst to take women’s football in India to greater heights in the coming years," said John.

The Qualifiers for the grand tournament is set to take place from September 13 to 25, 2021 in centralised venues with the draw scheduled to be held on May 27at the AFC house in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“We are excited to kick-off the new year with the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022. Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar and Navi Mumbai have put in a lot of work to upgrade their football infrastructure," said AIFF president and FIFA council member Praful Patel.
