Bhubaneswar/Dubai: Ace para athlete, Odia sprinter queen Jayanti Behera has once again brought laurels for the state by clinching silver in 100 metres race at the ongoing Asian Youth Para Athletic Championship held in Dubai.

The top spot was secured by Misu Honoka of Japan with 13.45 seconds, while Jayanti clinched the second spot with a narrow difference of 0.3 seconds behind Honoka clocking a timing 13.48 seconds. The third position was grabbed by Nakagawa Moe of Japan who finished in 14.24 seconds.

The girl, reportedly a student of Sakhigopal Gurukul in Puri district, had earlier won gold in the 400 metres race at the China Open Para Athletics Grand Prix championship by clocking a time of 1.02 minutes.

This apart, Behera had won gold in 400 metres and silver in 200 metres race at the World Junior Para Athletic Championship held in Switzerland this August.

Meanwhile, Jayanti’s performance at the Asian Youth championship was applauded by Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda who took to twitter to congratulate her.

Panda said, "Congratulations to the athlete for making the state proud by winning in the foreign soil. Wish her more success in her future endeavors."
