Veteran India pacer Mohammed Shami has declared that he is ready to don the national colours again, saying his main motivation is to stay fit and be prepared whenever the team needs him. Shami, who last represented India in the Champions Trophy, has been in red-hot form in domestic cricket and is now knocking on the selectors’ doors once again.
Back in Rhythm With a Five-Wicket Haul
The Bengal speedster showcased his trademark swing and precision in the Ranji Trophy, taking a brilliant five-wicket haul (5/38) to guide Bengal to a 141-run victory over Gujarat. “A lot of hard work is there and I believe luck too plays a part. Every cricketer wants to play for the country. I’m ready for that again,” Shami told reporters after the match.

Focus on Fitness and Form
Shami emphasised that his focus remains on maintaining peak fitness and letting his performances speak for themselves. “My motivation is to stay fit and be available for the Indian team at all times. The rest is in the selectors’ hands,” he said.
Staying Away From Controversy
The pacer brushed aside talk of his past disagreements with chief selector Ajit Agarkar, saying he preferred to focus on cricket. “I’m always involved in some controversy, thanks to you guys (laughs). It’s just a misunderstanding,” he quipped.
Looking Ahead
With his rhythm back and confidence high, Shami will next feature for Bengal against Tripura starting November 1. As he continues his domestic dominance, fans hope it’s only a matter of time before India’s trusted match-winner is back in blue.
