Bhubaneswar: The capacity of the Kalinga Stadium here will be doubled while work of the second hockey field inside the stadium premises will be completed by July this year, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi informed this after the second executive committee meeting for the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 held here today.

Padhi further informed that new turf will be installed in both the stadiums as per the Olympic regulations while the old one will be sent to be used in Rourkela and Sambalpur hockey stadiums.

A special committee has been formed for traffic and parking issues during the mega sporting event to be held in November this year. Besides, facilities like another entry point, cafeteria, food court and sports goods stores will be developed inside the stadium, he added.

Besides, promotion of the Hockey World Cup will be carried out in all blocks. LED panels will be installed in every district to facilitate spectators watch live matches during the hockey tournament, said Sports And Youth Affairs secretary Vishal Dev.

More than 10,000 spectators from abroad are expected to come to watch the World Cup. Among others, Hockey India League (HIL) CEO, DGP, Police Commissioner and Tourism Secretary were present at the meeting.
