Cuttack: The people of the Silver City have now got a chance to enjoy raiding and tackling skills of national level Kabaddi players. The 44th Junior National Kabaddi Championship for both boys and girls was inaugurated at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Cuttack on Tuesday.

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera inaugurated the championship in the evening in presence of BJD MP Anubhav Mohanty, Cuttack-Barabati BJD MLA Debasish Samantaray and CMC Deputy Mayor Ajay Barik along with the office bearers of state and national Kabaddi associations.

"This is a big opportunity for players of the state. After the function today, matches will be played. Odisha team has prepared really well to compete with others," said Ajay Behera, Secretary, Odisha Kabaddi Association.

"I am really happy being the brand ambassador of the Odisha team. I want to wish all the boys and girls 'All the best' for the championship," said Anubhav Mohanty.

Around 900 players in both boys and girls category representing 58 teams from all over the country have assembled in the city for this competition.

"We are very excited and happy to play the tournament here. Odisha people are very friendly and are good hosts," said a player from Manipur.

The formal inauguration ceremony was followed by a glittering cultural evening with song and dance performances.

This is first such junior Kabaddi tournament which will be played inside an indoor hall. The four courts of the stadium will be used for the matches. Odisha is in Pool C in both the categories and the matches will be played in league cum knock-out basis.

The championship will conclude on December 15, 2017.
