Bhubaneswar: It is certainly a proud moment for the State as ace shooter from Odisha Shriyanka Sadangi has made it to the Indian Women Rifle Team for the upcoming ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) Shooting World Cup 2021 to be held in New Delhi.

"Odia international Shriyanka Sadangi has sealed her berth in the Indian women rifle team for the ISSF Shooting World Cup, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from March 18 to March 29, 2021," State Sports & Youth Services Department said.

Taking to Twitter, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Sadangi on her selection in the national team for the ISSF World Cup.

So far, a total of 42 countries have confirmed their entries for the International Shooting Sport Federation combined World Cup for rifle, pistol and shotgun.

Shooting powerhouses China and Japan are among a host of countries skipping the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi this year. Some other countries which have not sent in their entries for the tournament include the likes of Germany, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Kuwait and Malaysia, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) said in a release on Tuesday.

The New Delhi tournament will see as many as 30 finals being held at an ISSF World Cup stage for the first time with the new team formats approved by the global body last year.

Worthwhile to mention, Shriyanka had clinched two international medals at Hannover, Germany, in January 2019. At the 13th South Asian Games 2019 held in Kathmandu, Shriyanka had won a silver medal with a score of 250.8. Indian shooters bagged as many as nine medals, including four golds in the event. Shooter Sadangi had also bagged a silver medal at the 9th Asian Airgun Championship in Tehran of Iran in 2016, in the category of 10 meter Air Rifle Shooting.

Prior to that, the Sambalpur-born girl was also selected in the Indian team for the 51st ISSF World Shooting Championship held at Granada, Spain in 2014. She had won gold in the Junior International Shooting Championship-2012 held at Suhl in Germany and another gold medal in the fourth Asian Airgun Shooting Championship held in Kuwait in 2011.

Shriyanka Sadangi was declared the winner of the most prestigious sports award of Odisha ‘Ekalabya Puraskar’ for 2013 for her outstanding performance in the field.
