Bhubaneswar/Alur (Karnataka): Despite Biplab Samantaray and Prayas Singh Thakur's impressive batting, Odisha once again failed to chase a steep target in excess of 300 set by Baroda after batting heroics from Krunal Pandya and Deepak Hooda.

Chasing 318 in 50 overs, Odisha were bowled out for 260 in 47 overs, handing Baroda a 57-run win in Group-A game of Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day cricket tournament at Alur in Karnataka.

In the first innings, Urvil Patel was the first to depart for Baroda at 45 runs. International all-rounder Yusuf Pathan scored 28 runs after which Krunal Pandya (84) and Deepak Hooda (52) played extremely well in the middle overs.

Swapnil Singh's quick fire knock of 56 and Vishnu Solanki's unbeaten 22 off 11 balls took Baroda to a massive score of 317/6 in allotted 50 overs.

For Odisha, spinner Abhishek Raut scalped two wickets while Suryakanta Pradhan, Deepak Behera, Prayas Singh Thakur and Jayanta Behera claimed one apiece.

Chasing a big target, Odisha batsmen looked under tremendous pressure from the very beginning. Odisha kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and found itself at 87/5 at one stage.

Senior player Biplab Samantaray and young Prayas Singh Thakur then got together to stitch a partnership worth 90 runs for the sixth wicket. Prayas got run-out for 51 while Biplab was picked up by Ninad Rathva for 74.

Although Deepak Behera and Suryakanta Pradhan scored 31 and 23, respectively low down the order, Odisha still fell short by 57 runs.

With almost nothing left in the tournament for the team, Odisha will try to salvage some pride in their last game against Haryana on Friday.
