After a fierce duel with Chennai Super Kings, KKR emerged victorious, securing one of the most explosive all-rounders in world cricket. In the process, Green became the costliest overseas player in IPL history, surpassing Mitchell Starc’s Rs 24.75 crore deal in 2024.

Cameron Green is no stranger to the IPL spotlight. Having previously represented Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the Australian all-rounder has consistently delivered impactful performances with both bat and ball. His ability to dominate bowling attacks and provide crucial breakthroughs makes him a valuable asset, one KKR clearly believes can tilt matches in their favour.

Why Green Won’t Take Home the Full Amount

Despite the headline-grabbing figure, Green will not receive the entire Rs 25.20 crore. According to India Today, a rule introduced by the BCCI prioritises Indian players by capping overseas salaries at the highest Indian retention slab, currently set at Rs 18 crore. Any amount above this limit is redirected to the BCCI and used for player welfare initiatives.

Why the Rule Exists

The regulation was introduced following franchise concerns about overseas players selectively entering auctions to inflate prices. Alongside salary caps, strict measures now include a two-year IPL ban for players who withdraw after registering and restrictions on skipping mega-auctions.

Final Word

Cameron Green’s move to KKR is more than just a record-breaking deal, it’s a statement of intent. While the full paycheck may be capped, the expectations won’t be. For KKR fans, the Green era promises excitement, power, and a genuine push for IPL glory.
