Abu Dhabi: Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday won the toss and chose to bat ahead of their match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Stadium. With early departure of Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma, MI post a winning target of 194 runs for RR scoring 193 runs at a loss of 4 wickets.
MI are eyeing their first win against RR since 2015 as they take the field tonight in Abu Dhabi.
On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals have made three changes to the team - Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ankit Rajpoot, Kartik Tyagi (Debut) in place of Robin Uthappa, Jayadev Unadkat and Riyan Parag.
Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock, the openers of MI had a good start facing Ankit Rajpoot. Ankit turned out to be expensive as he leaked 25 runs in his first two overs. However, de Kock was beaten off the short on and ball stood went straight up in the air while facing Kartik Tyagi. Tyagi got his Maiden IPL wicket as Buttler made no mistake in catching the ball up in the air.
Kartik Tyagi struck in the fifth over to break Mumbai Indians’ 49-run opening stand by removing Quinton de Kock at 23 runs.
MI posted 57 runs in the first power play, at a loss of 1 wicket against Rajasthan Royals.
Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadan took the MI innings ahead.
However, Shreyas Gopal hunted down Rohit Sharma. Rohit ended up getting caught at long-on scoring 35 runs.
Jofra Archer decoded Krunal Pandya’s (12) weakness off short ball and trapped him with one in the 14th over.
Suryakumar Yadav scored his first fifty in IPL 2020 to guide Mumbai Indians to 193/4. He remained unbeaten on 79 runs and was perfectly backed by Hardik Pandya who scored 30 runs off 19 balls and remained unbeaten.
Defending Mumbai Indians are coming after two consecutive wins against Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.
MI look well balance and composed, however, RR are struggling to get back on the track following back-to-back defeats.
