Dubai: Just what Chennai Super Kings (CSK) needed, a solid foundation by their openers. A powerful opening partnership of Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis made way for CSK to clinch its victory from Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at no loss of wickets in the 18 match of IPL 2020. Both the openers easily achieved the winning target of 179 runs in 17.4 overs.

CSK were off to a dream start in pursuit of 179-run target against KXIP in Dubai. Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis stitched a 100-plus run partnership for the first wicket and scored their respective half-centuries.

Watson scored 87 runs in 53 balls while de Plessis scored 83 runs in 53 balls, that lead them to achieve the winning target and taking the total score to 181 runs.

Shane Watson scored his 20th IPL FIFTY and his first in Dream 11 IPL 2020, while du Plessis scored his fifty in 33 deliveries. du Plessis, a mix of innovation and convention hit 4 boundaries in just one over of Jordan.

The KXIP bowlers failed to pick any wickets.

Highly effective death over bowling from Shardul Thakur and Dwayne Bravo on Sunday helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) restrict Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) to 178/4 after the latter looked set for a total close to or beyond the 200-run mark at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

KXIP's star openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal got them off to a good start and their partnership of 61 runs was only broken in the ninth over. Mandeep Singh played a useful cameo of 27 off 16 balls after which Nicholas Pooran put up a 58-run stand for the third wicket.

Shardul took two wickets in two balls in the 18th over to put the breaks on the innings. His first was that Pooran who was dismissed due to a sharp catch by Ravindra Jadeja in the deep after which he dismissed Rahul on 63.
