Dubai: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) restricted Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to 172 runs in the 49th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Dubai International Stadium. Chasing the target of 173 runs, CSK beat KKR by 6 wickets scoring 178 runs.

CSK openers Shane Watson and Ruturaj Gaikwad began the 2nd innings. Both the openers had a good start. Remaining unbeaten, with several boundaries, the openers scored 44 runs by the end of powerplay.

However, in the 8th over, Watson departed scoring 14 runs off 18 deliveries. Varun Chakravarthy took the big wicket. while CSK's total score was 50.

Following the downfall of team's first wicket, Gaikwad took the responsibility of leading his team towards victory. In halfway through the chase, CSK was at 74 runs with loss of one wicket.

Soon, Gaikwad scored his IPL fifty off 37 deliveries. It was his 2nd half-century in the Dream-11 IPL.

Supporting Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu also smashed multiple boundaries. But, Pat Cummins broke the strong partnership in the 14th over dismissing Rayudu at 38.

Following the dismissal of Rayudu, CSK skipper MS Dhoni stepped onto the field but Varun dismissed him early in the 15th over. Dhoni scored only 1 run off 3 balls.

By the end of 15 overs, CSK was 121 at loss of 3 wickets.

In a big blow to CSK in the 18th over, Cummins bowled Gaikwad. Gaikwad could score 72 runs off 52 balls.

However, Ravindra Jadeja and Sams Curran lead the team's score near to victory in the nail-biting match.

Jadeja scored 31 runs off 11 balls and Curran scored 13 off 14 balls and the duo remained unbeaten leading CSK to clinch victory from KKR.

Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik helped KKR take 66 runs from the last five overs of their innings to help them to a total of 172/5 wickets.

Rana hit 10 fours and four sixes, three of which came on the trot in the 16th over, on his way to 87 off 61 balls at the Dubai International Stadium. He fell in the 18th over to Lungi Ngidi after which Karthik saw them through to the last over, with captain Eoin Morgan chipping with 15 off 12 balls.

CSK managed to keep a lid on the runs much of the innings. Mitchell Santner ensured that Sunil Narine departed before he got into double figures while opener Shubman Gill fell to Karn Sharma in the eighth over after an opening partnership of 53 runs with Rana.

Earlier, CSK won the toss and chose to bowl.
