As India gears up for a high-voltage tour of Australia, all eyes are on the grand return of two modern legends, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The duo, who recently stepped away from T20Is and Tests, are making their comeback in ODIs after a long break. But alongside the excitement, speculation had been rife would this be their farewell series in the 50-over format?

Putting all rumours to rest, BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla has made it clear that there’s no retirement on the cards for either player. India will face Australia in a three-match ODI and five-match T20I series starting October 19, and Shukla insists both seniors remain integral to the squad’s plans.

“It’s Absolutely Wrong to Say This Will Be Their Last”

Speaking to ANI, Shukla said, “Both Rohit and Virat are great batsmen. Their presence in the team will help us beat Australia. As far as this being their last series is concerned, it is absolutely wrong. It’s up to the players to decide when they retire.”

A New Chapter for Team India

Interestingly, the series also marks the first ODI captaincy stint for Shubman Gill, who succeeds Rohit Sharma. The move aims to give Gill enough time to build his leadership credentials before the next ODI World Cup in 2027.

While the future may belong to the next generation, for now, India’s batting backbone, Rohit and Kohli, are here to remind everyone that class is forever.
