Sanju Samson
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may not have made an official announcement yet, but their latest social media post seems to have confirmed what fans have been speculating — Sanju Samson could be on his way to Chennai.
On Tuesday, CSK’s official X handle wished the Rajasthan Royals skipper a happy birthday with the caption, “More power to you, Sanju! Wishing you a super birthday!” accompanied by a celebratory graphic. Amid swirling trade rumours, the message sounded less like a routine greeting and more like a teaser for their next big signing.
The post came just hours after multiple reports indicated that a blockbuster trade involving Sanju Samson, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sam Curran is nearing completion. All three players are said to have agreed to the move, with formal paperwork expected to be finalized within the next 48 hours. According to IPL rules, once a trade is initiated, both the league and, in Curran’s case, the ECB must approve it before it becomes official — explaining the current silence from both CSK and Rajasthan Royals.
Interestingly, franchises rarely highlight rival captains with such warmth unless there’s a deeper connection. Combined with the consistent media buzz, CSK’s “more power to you” message feels like a subtle nod to their potential new wicketkeeper-batter — and possibly, their future captain.

From a cricketing perspective, the trade makes perfect sense. Samson has been among the IPL’s most consistent top-order batters in recent seasons, scoring over 4,300 runs at a strike rate close to 140. He also led Rajasthan Royals to the IPL 2022 final and boasts a captaincy win percentage of over 51. For CSK, eyeing life beyond MS Dhoni, the 31-year-old Indian keeper-batter represents an ideal long-term successor.
There’s just one challenge ahead for Samson — his record at Chepauk has been underwhelming so far, with only 59 runs in five innings at an average of 11.8. If the trade materializes, his first mission will be to turn his toughest venue into a new home ground.
For now, CSK’s birthday post has poured fuel on the trade speculation fire. While the deal awaits BCCI’s final approval, it seems that, at least on social media, Sanju Samson has already been welcomed as the newest Super King.
